Mild Autism

Mild Autism

Autism is a spectrum disorder which can range from mild to severe, where children with mild autism are described as individuals who exhibit fewer or less severe symptoms compared to those with moderate or severe autism. People with mild autism are also the ones who need the least support for the activities of daily life. However, it is important to note that the term "mild" can be misleading, as it doesn't necessarily imply that the challenges faced by individuals with mild autism are insignificant or easy to manage.

People with mild autism may have relatively well-developed language and cognitive abilities, allowing them to function at a higher level in certain areas. However, they still experience difficulties in social interaction, communication, and behavior, which are characteristic of autism spectrum disorders.

While individuals with mild autism may have fewer obstacles in daily life, they often benefit from support, understanding, and targeted interventions to enhance their social and communication skills. At FIT-IN, we are able to deliver programs suited to their needs, ensuring that they get the support they require whilst being comfortable. Some of the programs offered at FIT-IN are as follows, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, sensory integration therapy, and ABA Therapy.

ABA therapy helps children with mild autism improve preferred behaviors such as their conversational skills, responding appropriately to new people along with maintaining eye contact. Occupational therapy helps with their lack of coordination, low muscle tone and their imitative skills which can be an issue for children with mild autism. Sensory integration therapy helps mildly autistic children with the sensory challenges (overstimulated/understimulated) that they may face, along with how to feel comfortable in different environments. Our speech therapy is focused on providing conversation skills and teaching them how to interpret body language.
